Hoa Ban Festival
2nd lunar month
This festival of the Thai ethnic group is also called xen ban xen muong. It is organized every year when the ban flower begins to blossom, colouring the mountains of North- West Viet Nam in white. At the festival, people pray for abundant crops and luck. They also wish for a peaceful and materially secure life. At the same time, it is an opportunity for talent competitions and entertainment.

Son La Former Prison & Museum
Located in the centre of Son La Town, 328km from Ha Noi, Son La Provincial Museum was originally a peni¬tentiary built by the French in 1908. At first, it was only a small provincial prison; however, between 1930 and 1945, thousands of Vietnamese patriots This prison incarcerated key individuals who later became main leaders of the Revolution for National Liberation. In 1962, it was listed by the Ministry of Culture as one of many revolutionary heritage sites in the country.

Yen Chau District is 260km from Ha Noi and 60km from Son La, next to National Highway 6. Yen Chau is famous for its bananas, longans and mangoes that are small, sweet, delicious-smelling and have a green skin unlike those planted in the South.

Moc Chau Plateau
Moc Chau Plateau is 199km from Ha Noi along National Highway 6. The plateau is about 1,000m above sea level and around 80km long and 25km wide. The area of the grass-field accounts for more than 14,000ha and is suitable for animal husbandry, tea planting and other agriculture.
